Young Man's Fire (A Yes tribute)

from TURNING OVER TABLES by Mychael John Thomas

/

about

Before I became a Christian I was always looking for truth in music, art, and literature. I discovered Yes in 1970 and have been a fan ever since. This work is an homage to the passion for music that they and others have inspired in me through the years...The thing I always liked about Jon Anderson's lyrics was his search for God. Not many people write about that...

lyrics

YOUNG MAN’S FIRE (A Yes Tribute)

CHORUS
I sing with a young man’s fire
From a burning heart of passion desire
Calling out to the universe
For that pure love that’s leading the search
I scream…I cry…In my longing to know why
No quest can be greater than to sing
With young man’s fire

There is no reason or rhyme
In the driving of our youth…Ah to learn the truth
That would be blessing in the mind
There is no season of time
For divining what is real…A never ending zeal
That we express in human kind
Do not go gently into that good night
I relate to that so well
And we’re all entertaining Heaven or Hell on earth

CHORUS
I sing with a young man’s fire
A reckless abandon taking me higher
I’m wishing upon a star
That a freedom wind will be taking me far
Away from here…So that I may see it clear
Consumed with a driving need to breathe
Young man’s fire

There is no wisdom and grace
In the innocent’s approach…Irony exposed
How can we ever get it right?
This world only give us a place
We can suffocate alone…Deprived of all we own
I want to look into the light
My Seventh Heaven is calling me
I believe it in my soul
So maybe it’s time to finally know my worth?

BRIDGE
Lay it down with a wall of sound
Don’t let up till the deaf come around
All night long till it’s all night long
Live a young man’s dream until I’m gone!!!

BRIDGE 2
One could think that the well runs dry
And that might be true for the captive soul
Ordinarily one might die
For someone they love or even someone they know
A revelation has to come
Dividing line ‘tween the wise and cold
A celebration has begun
Now we have a reason to let compassion flow

Who knows tomorrow may bring
A rainbow to your eyes…No more floods in life
Ah but then we can only hope
That someone watches us all
Waiting for our move…Only we can choose
Which is the road we want to go
And when I going for it on my own
There is still Someone beside
Who perpetually waits to bind my every hurt

CHORUS
I sing with a young man’s fire
From a burning heart of passion desire
Calling out to the universe
For that pure love that’s leading the search
I scream…I cry…I’m longing to know why
No quest can be higher than to sing
With young man’s fire...Young Man's fire
