This song is based on the poem by R. L. Sharpe. I quit school in the 11th grade, and my uncle drove 150 miles to talk me into going back. During his "pep talk" he recited it to me. I have remembered that day ever since. This is a thank you to my uncle.

Isn’t it strange how princes and kings
And clowns who caper in sawdust rings
And common people like you and me
Are builders for eternity

Stumbling blocks…or stepping stones

I was a young man when you spoke those words
And told me a truth I had never heard
Now each day I face a new rising sun
Their timeless wisdom still leads me on
