VOICE OF THE IRISH

When I were a boy I was captured by pirates
Six years as a slave…A shepherd was I
Tho young and afraid the Lord smiled upon me
Forgiving my sins so that I would not die

I tended the flocks and grew in His wisdom
Forgiven in Christ He grew my faith strong
Till a voice told me Son you will soon be returning
Your ship is now ready to bring you back home

One night I escaped and fled from my captors
Some two hundred miles where my ship did await
For three days we sailed then in wilderness wandered
Until I arrived and the vision it came

I Saw a man coming as it were from Ireland
His name was Victorious and letters had He
And He gave me one so I read the heading
The voice of the Irish said me
Aye, the voice of the Irish I be

Now brothers and sisters I longed to serve Jesus
And freedom had come after many a trial
But God’s own forgiveness will sometimes require us
To offer His love to the sons of Belial

Committed to Him I prayed and I studied
My visions continued and clearly I heard
The cries of the ones who had taken me captive
Please Holy Boy come and walk among us

Now many a legend have spread through the ages
And but for His Grace shining truth could be lost
So I raise me Shamrock three points representing
The Father the Son and the Sweet Holy Ghost
